About WTA

The WTA is the top professional women's tennis tour in the world. The season runs from January through November, with over 50 tournaments across the globe, including four Grand Slams. The season is in full swing, with the clay court season coming up and the French Open next month. Iga Swiatek is the current world No. 1 and the defending champion at Roland Garros.

Top players

Iga Swiatek is the dominant force in women's tennis. The Polish star has won multiple Grand Slams and has been ranked No. 1 for years. Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, and Elena Rybakina are the main challengers. Other top players include Jessica Pegula, Ons Jabeur, and Wimbledon champion Markéta Vondroušová. The depth of talent on the WTA Tour is as strong as it's ever been.

Tour structure

The WTA Tour is split into several tiers. The four Grand Slams are the biggest events. Below them are the WTA 1000 events (like Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid, and Rome), WTA 500 events, and WTA 250 events. The season ends with the WTA Finals, featuring the top eight singles players and doubles teams. The 2026 WTA Finals will be held in Saudi Arabia.

Viewership

The WTA pulls nearly 700 million viewers globally each season. The Grand Slams draw the biggest audiences, especially Wimbledon and the US Open. The WTA Finals and 1000 events also get strong ratings. International interest has grown with top players from Poland, Belarus, the US, and Asia competing at the highest level.

Streaming options in the US

In the US, Tennis Channel is the exclusive home for the majority of WTA Tour events (500s and 1000s) through 2032. The Tennis Channel App and Tennis Channel+ stream matches live and on demand. Tennis Channel is available through streaming bundles like Fubo, YouTube TV, Sling TV, and DirecTV Stream. ESPN+ covers select courts and early rounds for the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and US Open. TNT Sports holds rights to the French Open.

Streaming options in the UK

In the UK, Sky Sports Tennis is the primary home for WTA 1000, 500, and 250 tournaments under a five-year deal. NOW provides flexible access to Sky Sports Tennis through Day or Month memberships. Discovery+ covers the Australian Open and Roland Garros. BBC iPlayer holds rights for Wimbledon coverage.

Streaming options in Europe

Coverage varies across Europe. In Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, Sky Deutschland broadcasts WTA events. In Italy, Sky Italia is the primary broadcaster. In Spain, DAZN holds the rights. In France, beIN SPORTS covers WTA matches. In Romania, DIGISPORT is the broadcaster. In the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Canal+ carries the matches. Eurosport and Discovery+ hold rights to all four Grand Slams in various European countries.

Global streaming options

WTA TV is the official streaming service offering live and on-demand coverage of WTA matches globally, particularly in areas without local broadcast partners. Tennis Channel International is expanding into Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. beIN Sports covers WTA events in parts of Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa. In Canada, TSN broadcasts WTA matches. For fans traveling outside their home country, a VPN is required to access local streaming services.

Current season

The 2026 WTA season kicked off in January with the Australian Open. The clay court season is underway, with the French Open starting in late May. Wimbledon is in July, and the US Open is in August. The WTA Finals are scheduled for November. Iga Swiatek is the defending champion at Roland Garros. The race for the year-end No. 1 ranking is tight. WTA TV streams matches for international fans without local broadcast partners.
