About CFL

The Canadian Football League is the top professional Canadian football league in the world. It's a nine-team league that runs from June through November, with the Grey Cup wrapping up the season. The 2026 season is just getting underway, with training camps complete and the opening matchups scheduled to kickoff. The Montreal Alouettes are the defending champions after winning the 2025 title.

Top teams

The Montreal Alouettes, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and Toronto Argonauts are the league's flagship franchises. The defending champion Alouettes are led by Cody Fajardo and Tyson Philpot. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers, led by Zach Collaros, are the top team in the Western Division. The BC Lions, Saskatchewan Roughriders, and Hamilton Tiger-Cats are also title contenders. The league is deep. The playoff race in both divisions is tight as the regular season gets underway.

Format

Each team plays 18 games in the regular season. The top three teams in each division earn playoff spots. The first-place team in each division gets an automatic bye to the Division Finals, while the second and third-place teams face off in the Division Semifinals. The CFL also features the Crossover Rule, which allows a fourth-place team in one division to earn a playoff spot in the opposite division if they finish with a better record than that division's third-place finisher. The playoffs are single-elimination. The Grey Cup is also a winner-take-all single championship. The format rewards regular-season stability while leaving room for the crossover drama.

Viewership

The CFL pulls over 15 million viewers globally each season. The numbers are strongest in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. The Grey Cup and Labour Day Classic games draw the biggest audiences. The league has a massive international following, with stars from Canada, the United States, and the global draft cohort leading many teams.

Streaming options in the US

The 2026 season features a streamlined broadcast partnership in the United States. Coverage is split across two primary partners. CBS Sports Network is the exclusive television home for 34 regular-season games, the division playoffs, and the 113th Grey Cup championship. For every other live match, CFL+ is the free, direct-to-consumer digital platform streaming all non-CBS games exclusively. Out-of-market games are easily accessible through Prime Video and the CFL App in select regions. Regional terrestrial networks do not carry domestic matches in the USA, keeping streaming access entirely centralized.

Streaming options in the UK and Ireland

In the UK and Ireland, Sky Sports is the broadcast partner showing select live matches throughout the season leading into the playoffs. For comprehensive global access to every single live matchup, CFL+ provides free, unrestricted digital coverage of all regular season fixtures, divisional finals, and the championship game live or on demand.

Streaming options in Europe

CFL+ is a major hub for European gridiron fans, offering live and on-demand access to all regular-season clashes, playoff series, and the ultimate Grey Cup battle completely free. Streamers can also check local sports websites such as DAZN for localized highlights, interviews, and condensed packages of the most exciting games.

International streaming options

CFL+ broadcasts all matches free to fans outside of Canada and the United States, reaching fans in South America, Asia, and Oceania. For passionate fans and Canadian expats worldwide, CFL+ continues as the most reliable, high-definition option to experience three-down football without paying for premium regional subscriptions.

Current season

The 2026 CFL season kicks off in June 2026. The regular season runs through late October, with the division semifinals and finals starting immediately in November. The 113th Grey Cup match will take place in late November. The Montreal Alouettes are the defending champions. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Toronto Argonauts are the top contenders in their respective divisions. CFL+ streams out-of-market games for international fans completely free, while CBS Sports Network handles national TV broadcasts in the United States.
