About National Lacrosse League

The National Lacrosse League is the top professional box lacrosse league in North America. The 2025-26 season runs 21 weeks from November through May, with 14 teams across the United States and Canada. The season is in the final stretch, with the playoffs coming up in April and May. The Buffalo Bandits are the three-time defending champions after winning the 2025 title.

What the NLL is about

Box lacrosse is a fast, physical sport played on a hockey rink with the ice removed. The NLL uses a 30-second shot clock, and the boards are in play, making for a high-paced, contact-heavy game. The league has 14 franchises across North America, with teams in Buffalo, Colorado, San Diego, Toronto, and other cities. The 2025-26 season kicked off on November 28, 2025, with the Oshawa FireWolves hosting the Toronto Rock.

Top teams and players

The Buffalo Bandits are the three-time defending champions. Dhane Smith is the team's star — he recently became the eighth player in NLL history to reach 1,300 career points. Josh Byrne is another key scorer. Other top teams this season include the Saskatchewan Rush, who have won eight straight games, and the Colorado Mammoth. Jeff Teat of the Ottawa Black Bears and Christian Del Bianco of the Calgary Roughnecks are among the league's top players.

Format

The regular season runs 21 weeks with 126 games. Each team plays an 18-game schedule. The top eight teams advance to the playoffs. The playoffs are a single-elimination format, with the championship final in June. The season started November 28, 2025, and runs through April 2026, with the playoffs in May and June.

Viewership

The NLL welcomed over 1 million fans for the third consecutive year in 2024-25. TV viewership on TSN grew 31 percent year over year. The league has a dedicated following across North America, especially in Buffalo, Colorado, and Canadian markets. The Bandits regularly draw over 19,000 fans at KeyBank Center.

Streaming options in the US

In the United States, all NLL games stream live on ESPN+. The ESPN+ platform is the exclusive home for the league, carrying every regular season and playoff game. Select games also air on the ESPN family of networks. Local broadcasts are available in some markets — for example, Buffalo Bandits games air locally on The CW23.

Streaming options in Canada

In Canada, the NLL has a multi-platform partnership with TSN. TSN broadcasts "NLL Friday Night on TSN" games on linear television. TSN+ streams all other games, including the full schedule. NLL+ is the league's direct-to-consumer streaming platform, offering replays and additional content. The partnership with TSN is in its fifth season.

International streaming options

For fans outside North America, the NLL doesn't have a dedicated international broadcast partner. The best option is using a VPN to access ESPN+ or TSN+ from abroad. Some games may be available through NLL+ depending on the region. The league's YouTube channel occasionally posts highlights and recaps.

Current season

The 2025-26 NLL season kicked off on November 28, 2025. The regular season runs through April 2026. The playoffs start in late April, with the championship final in June. The Buffalo Bandits are the three-time defending champions. The Saskatchewan Rush currently lead the standings with an eight-game winning streak. ESPN+ streams all games in the US, while TSN and TSN+ cover the league in Canada.
