About Italian Volleyball League
The SuperLega is the top professional men's volleyball league in Italy. It's one of the strongest leagues in the world, featuring top clubs like Sir Safety Susa Perugia, Itas Trentino, and Cucine Lube Civitanova. The season runs from October through May, with the playoffs wrapping up in the spring. The playoffs are underway, with teams fighting for the championship.
Top teams
Sir Safety Susa Perugia is the dominant force in Italian volleyball. They've won multiple titles and regularly compete in the CEV Champions League. Itas Trentino is another powerhouse — they've won the Champions League several times. Cucine Lube Civitanova, Vero Volley Monza, and Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza are regular playoff contenders. The league is deep. Any of five or six teams can win it in a given year.
Format
The league has 12 teams. Each plays each other twice in the regular season. The top eight teams advance to the playoffs. The quarterfinals and semifinals are best-of-five series. The final is a best-of-five series for the championship. The bottom two teams are relegated to the Serie A2. The format rewards regular-season performance while leaving room for upsets.
Viewership
The SuperLega pulls over 5 million viewers globally each season. The numbers are strongest in Italy, where volleyball has a dedicated following. Perugia, Trento, and Civitanova matches draw the biggest crowds. The playoff finals are the biggest event of the season.
