About German ProA

The ProA is the second tier of professional basketball in Germany, sitting below the BBL. It's an 18-team competition that runs from September through May. The league is a mix of ambitious clubs trying to move up to the top flight and teams with strong youth development programs. The regular season is in the final stretch, with promotion and playoff battles coming down to the wire.

Top teams

The ProA features clubs that have dropped from the BBL and ambitious teams pushing for promotion. Teams like Karlsruhe, Vechta, and Trier have spent time in the top flight. The league is competitive. The promotion race usually goes down to the final weeks of the season.

Format

The league has 18 teams. Each plays each other twice in the regular season. The top eight teams advance to the playoffs. The champion is promoted directly to the BBL. The playoffs are best-of-three series in the quarterfinals and semifinals, with a best-of-five final. The bottom two teams are relegated to the ProB.

Viewership

The ProA pulls around 2 million viewers annually. The numbers are strongest in cities where clubs are fighting for promotion. The playoff finals draw the biggest audiences. The league is also watched by scouts tracking young German talent.
